How do I create an account on Science Careers?
Just go to our account registration page. Fill out the required fields and click Save. It's that easy.
I already have a Science Careers account. How do I access my information in the new system?
Your account, including your cover letter(s) and resume(s), has been moved over to the new system. To log in just use the same information you had previously used to sign in to your Science Careers account.
I forgot my previous login information. What do I do?
Your username is whatever e-mail address you used to create your account. To recover your password, visit our password recovery page and submit your e-mail address. Your password will be e-mailed to you.
Searching and Applying
How do I search for Jobs?
There are several ways of searching for a job on Science Careers. You can search for jobs using keywords and postal codes in the header of the site by typing in your search and pressing the search button. You can also click on Search Jobs in the left-hand navigation to go to the advanced search page and execute a more detailed search.
Can I search for all jobs posted by a specific company?
Yes. You can click on any Company Name displayed on Science Careers to see all active jobs posted by that company. You can also type in a company name in the "Company" textbox on the main search page.
How do I sort my search results?
You can sort your search results by Relevance, Newest, Oldest, and Location by clicking the words on the search result header. Search results automatically default to Relevance.
What are Tags?
A tag is a (relevant) keyword or term associated with or assigned to a piece of information (like a job posting), thus describing the item and enabling keyword-based classification and searching of information it is applied to.
Can I search by tag?
Yes! You can search by any tag or keyword by clicking on the underlined tag in any search result or job.
How do I save a job?
In any search result, click on Save Job. If your job is successfully saved, the button will change to "Job Saved!" with a green check icon. Once you've saved a job you can access it through the Saved Jobs link on the left-hand side of the page or in the Saved Jobs tab that accompanies all of the job search results.
How do I remove a saved job?
To remove a saved job, click on the "Saved Jobs" tab on any search result page, or on the left-hand navigation, and then click on Remove.
How do I save a search?
To save a search go to the main Job Search page, enter the keyword(s), employer name, or field you are searching for (or any combination of any of the three). At the bottom of the Job Search form there is a field for naming your search. Give your search a name and click on Search. Your search will automatically be saved.
You can access your saved searches through the Saved Searches link on the left-hand navigation or the Saved Searches tab that accompanies the search results pages.
How do I subscribe to an RSS Feed of jobs from Science Careers?
If you are not familiar with what RSS is and would like to learn more visit Wikipedia for an explanation.
To subscribe to a feed, first you'll need to download an RSS reader.
Once you've set up the ability to receive RSS feeds on your computer, run and save the job searches that you would like to receive an RSS feed for. Once you have saved your search(es) go to the Saved Searches page via the left-hand navigation or the Saved Searches tab on the job search results page. Each Saved Search has an icon for RSS feeds. Click the icon and copy and paste the URL of the results page where your RSS Reader software asks for a URL.
Once that's done you'll receive instant and automatic updates to your RSS reader when new jobs meeting your criteria are added to the site. It's that easy.
What is "More Like This"?
More Like This is a quick and convenient way to search more deeply based on a job that you're currently looking at. If you like the job you're currently viewing just click More Like This in the search results. The system will run another, more specific search of the database and bring you the jobs that are most like the one you're interested in.
What is "Not Interested"?
This feature allows you to delete jobs from your search results and you won't see them again no matter how many times you use the same search criteria.
How do I apply for a job through Science Careers?
There are three different ways to apply for a job through Science Careers. 1. Apply through the system. Applying for jobs through Science Careers system is one of the big benefits to opening an account and posting a resume. Applying to a job by using the apply now button allows you to keep a record of each application and to ensure that your application is received by the employer. Some jobs include an e-mail link or a web address that you can apply from, or both.
Resumes and Cover Letters
Why should I post my resume at Science Careers?
After you create an account with Science Careers you can post your resume on our online database from which employers search for candidates. You can also use your uploaded resume to apply to hundreds of jobs listed on our website.
How do I upload my resume?
To upload your resume, log in to your account here. Once you are logged in, click on Post Resume, which is listed on the left-hand side navigation. Click on the Resume Builder Tool and build your resume using the tabbed pages. Once you have entered all your resume information, click Save at the bottom of the page. This will take you to your completed resume page.
How do I upload my cover letter?
Yes. Once you have an account, just select My Cover Letters from the left-hand navigation. Then click on the link for Create Cover Letter. You can then copy and paste your cover letter title and cover letter in the fields provided.
How do I change my profile picture?
To change your resume profile picture click Upload Photo, which is listed on the left-hand side navigation. Click the Browse button and select an image from your computer. After you select your image and click Open, you will be taken to the Crop Your Photo page. You can crop your image in two ways. One, you can make your image appear larger or smaller by using the slider tool. Two, you can determine which part of your image is shown in the picture block by dragging it into place. Once you are satisfied click Crop.
How many Resumes and Cover Letters can you load into the system?
As many as you'd like.
How do I apply for a job through Science Careers?
There are three different ways to apply for a job through Science Careers. First, ensure you have uploaded a resume to our system. Next, click the Apply Now button within the job posting you would like to apply to. Select your resume from the drop down menu and click Submit Application. Your resume has now been sent to the employer. You can keep track of your applications on the My Applications page, which is listed on the left-hand side navigation.
Job Alerts
Science Careers used to offer Job Alerts. Why can't I get those now?
We are in the process of setting job alerts in our new system. It's a complex process to program and we're not quite there yet. Job Alerts should be available in the next few weeks and we'll let you know as soon as they are ready. In the meantime we do offer RSS feeds of Saved Searches, which is a great and efficient alternative. Read more about RSS feeds.
Miscellaneous
I've never told Science Careers my location, but the site knows where I am. How did you do that?
Science Careers uses geo-location technology to determine your location based on the IP address that your computer reports to us. It's a very common technique used to determine an approximate location of where someone is.
Is Science Careers only for scientific positions?
Not entirely. We are focused on scientific positions in government, academia, and industry, but we also have job listings across a variety of areas within scientific organizations including sales, marketing, management, and more.
