The CIPA grant is part of a program designed to help minority institutions develop science and math curricula while attracting and preparing underrepresented students for careers in STEM.

SpelBots was created to provide hands-on robotics education and research for women computer science students at Spelman, and to promote robotics and computer technology among minorities.

Despite their different backgrounds, these four GEM students have dealt with the same issues--moving to larger schools, cultural isolation, unexpected crises, and family considerations--that all students of color face when transitioning into graduate school.
