I expect that these ideas could increase the numbers of all students pursuing MSE degrees, a real necessity in today's culture.

Other colleagues and I have long shared the view that the best way to truly change the situation for minority students is to use our scientific knowledge as a tool for their empowerment.

The decision to take calculus changed my life. Mathematics gave me the knowledge, skills, and confidence to choose a much different path in life from the rest of my family's.

We want minority students to choose majors in science, engineering, and mathematics departments and, we hope, proceed to careers in SEM.
