I have been able to stay in touch with fundamental physics, while at the same time getting my hands dirty with real experimental equipment.
"Moving from the academic environment and all of its politics to representing a community ... was an amazing thing and a big step in my career."
The whole experience has taught me that you must believe in your research and that somehow things will work out in the end.
