The abundance of dual-career academic couples has led to the opportunistic growth of certain institutions by taking advantage of paired excellence.

We all felt that it was time to make the common vision of the postdoctoral experience match the reality of today's longer and more involved undertaking.

We were weighing personal need, institutional need, and reality to come up with a workable, equitable program from a variety of systems, most of which were, and remain, beyond our control.

Despite the geeky stereotypes, some of us scientists are interesting and--dare we say it?--sexy in our own peculiar way.
