Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) was founded in 1924 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of modern China. The university is located in Guangzhou, a city neighboring Hong Kong and Macao.

Being one of the leading comprehensive universities in China, SYSU includes the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, technical sciences, medical sciences, pharmacology, and management sciences.

SYSU Health Science Schools are a fleet of well structured, multi-disciplined comprehensive medical education institutions, including Zhongshan School of Medicine, School of Public Health, Guanghua School of Stomatology, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and School of Nursing, and eight affiliated hospitals, offering nearly 9000 ward beds and receiving 170,000 inpatient surgeries yearly plus 12 million annual outpatient services. Nine designated State Key Disciplines, two State Key Laboratories and many other quality research facilities accommodate a large number of academic programs of excellence in basic biomedical sciences, clinical and translational research, public health and drug discovery, publishing over 1000 research articles in internationally peer reviewed biomedical and medical journals.
